Elevate your performance: pilot check preparation

A pilot’s job is far more complex than it might seem. This profession demands continuous training, skill-building, and a meticulous approach to maintaining up-to-date licenses and ratings.

Key Value Advantage

This session will fully prepare you for your upcoming EASA B737 type rating skill test or proficiency check, and all mandatory items will be flown, including any additional non-normal and emergency items at per your request. Training is conducted by experienced Type Rating Instructors (TRIs) and Type Rating Examiners (TREs). Key differences compared to the B737-NG will be clearly identified.

What Is a Proficiency Check?

According to EASA in Part-FCL rules, a proficiency check is “the demonstration of skill to revalidate or renew ratings or privileges and consist in an exam conducted in a certified simulator that fully replicates the aircraft, both in its performance and in the construction of the cockpit.

In other words, it’s a formal assessment where a pilot demonstrates their ability to meet regulatory standards, covering everything from flight skills to technical knowledge and situational responses.

What Is a License Proficiency Check?

The License Proficiency Check (LPC) is an annual assessment required to revalidate or renew a pilot’s rating. During the assessment, pilots demonstrate their proficiency in various flight scenarios, adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), and effective Crew Resource Management (CRM).

During the LPC conducted in a full flight simulator, pilots are assessed in a range of normal, abnormal, and emergency scenarios—many of which would be unsafe or impractical to replicate during actual flight operations. For example, an engine failure scenario is introduced, requiring the pilot to demonstrate precise aircraft handling and sound use of SOP's and decision making.

This ensures that pilots can demonstrate proficiency in managing rare but critical situations that cannot be safely practiced during routine flights.

What is this LPC preparation?

This session is especially beneficial for pilots who have not operated the B737 for some time and wish to maintain the validity of their type rating.

Or, if flying the B737, this course is a preparation for your annual LPC (License Proficiency Check) or your OPC (Operator Proficiency Check). Most airlines combine the LPC/OPC.

This session will fully prepare you for your upcoming check, and all mandatory items will be flown, including any additional non-normal and emergency items at per your request.

Complimentary, to refresh and practise flows and procedures, you may use the B737-MAX cockpit procedure trainer at no additional cost, with unlimited access subject to availability.

What is an Operator Proficiency Check?

OPC’s, which are carried out every six months, use the defined airline SOP’s stated in the FCOM. Evenmore, if approval obtained, a CAT II/III approach is part of the OPC, whether a standard LPC only handles CAT I approaches. Most airlines combine the LPC/OPC.

The OPC is conducted twice a year and, like the LPC, assesses normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures, alongside CRM skills. However, it also includes training specific to the airline’s requirements, such as:

  • Low Visibility Operations (LVO)

  • Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems (TAWS)

  • Special Airport Qualifications

  • Advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT)

This additional training ensures that pilots are not only technically proficient but also familiar with the specific demands of their airline’s routes and operational environments.

The preparation for my B737 check was intensive but incredibly rewarding. The instructors at Tobu bring real-world experience that made all the difference in my proficiency and confidence.
