Core Requirements to Start Training
-
Age: Minimum 17 years old to start training, but you must be 18 to hold a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and 21 for a full ATPL.
-
Medical Fitness: You must obtain an EASA Class 1 Medical Certificate from an approved Aeromedical Examiner (AME). This is the most critical first step to ensure you are physically fit for commercial flying.
-
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with strong knowledge of Mathematics and Physics.
-
English Proficiency: You must demonstrate fluency in English (spoken and written), generally at an ICAO Level 4 standard or higher.
-
Background: A clean criminal record (background check) is typically required.
-
Integrated ATPL: a full-time, all-in-one intensive course, usually completed in 18–24 months.
-
Modular ATPL: a flexible, step-by-step approach allowing you to complete training at your own pace (PPL -> Hour Building -> ATPL Theory -> CPL -> IR -> MEP -> MCC), often taking 2–5 years.
Key Licensing & Certification Stages
-
PPL (Private Pilot License): The initial license, requiring ~45 flight hours. This does not apply to candidates undertaking an Integrated ATPL course.
-
ATPL Theory: Passing 14 theoretical exams covering subjects like Air Law, Meteorology, Navigation, and Principles of Flight.
-
Medical Certificate: EASA Class 1 Medical.
-
Commercial Pilot License (CPL): Allows you to be paid to fly, requiring a minimum of 150–200 total flight hours.
-
Instrument Rating (IR): Qualifies you to fly in poor weather and low-visibility conditions (IMC).
-
Multi-Engine Piston (MEP) Rating: Required to fly multi-engine aircraft.
-
Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) & A-UPRT: Training for operating within a team in a jet cockpit (MCC) and advanced upset prevention and recovery training (A-UPRT).
